2020 has seen many unexpected changes. We won’t be revealing anything new if we say that the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way of life of billions of people. Many companies have to come to terms with this sad fact, and therefore adapt to new customer behavior patterns. To remain competitive, industries must evolve rapidly, and the mobile app market is no exception.
Naturally, the emergence of new trends in the field of mobile development is influenced not only by the epidemiological situation, and in order to stay afloat, you need to follow these trends, or better yet, be one step ahead. We talked with Software Engineer at Vizor Interactive Nikita Smolyanchenko and Android Developer at LWO International Sasha Lebedev and found out what app developers should prepare for and what they should comply with in 2021?
"Smartphones and tablets are already taking away about three and a half hours of screen time from a person, and this period will only increase in the future. During times of forced distancing, some social media marketing service applications are experiencing a period of stagnation, while others are experiencing phenomenal growth (the leaders of the hit parades include applications for food delivery and platforms for remote communication)." (Sasha Lebedev)
"It is very difficult to talk about trends and tendencies, because at the beginning of 2020, no one could have predicted that the travel business would be on the verge of extinction, that buyers would not accept wearable devices without a pulse oximeter (a device for measuring blood oxygen levels), and that Zoom's user base would grow by 4,700%, so it is quite difficult to predict what will happen in 2021. We will only outline the vector of development, but it is possible that by the end of this year , this list will be replenished with trends that we do not even suspect." ( Nikita Smolyanchenko)
App Clips
is Apple’s star feature that has taken the tech world by storm in 2020. With this innovation, users can view and use an app without having to install it on their device (all clips are integrated into the entire Apple ecosystem, including Apple Pay).
There’s no doubt that many developers and brands around the world will take advantage of this feature. The number of users turning to apps rather than websites for e-commerce or food delivery (as they say, a sore point) is growing. This fact, coupled with the intense use of post-pandemic habits (contactless shopping, mobile payments, and wallets), will definitely influence the development of the App Clips feature.
5G
5G technology is already having a major impact on mobile app development, but as you can see, there’s more to come. By 2025, the number of 5G connections worldwide is expected to reach 1.1 billion (no matter how many more towers are burned by timid people).
The speed of the new network standard is a giant leap forward that will not only improve the speed of internet connection on mobile phones, but also increase their functionality. 5G’s incredible ability to connect up to 1 million devices per square kilometer could lead to the idea of connecting everything possible (and we’re not just talking about phones, but also cars, refrigerators, washing machines, CCTV cameras, etc.)
"On September 8, 2020, the eleventh version of the Android operating system (Android OS11) was released. So the emphasis in this version is on 5G." (Sasha Lebedev)
" I see speed tests, I measure my Internet... the difference is a hundred times! The brain explodes from the number of options for using almost instant Internet! After the presentation of the iPhone 12 line, we can finally talk about the mass appearance of 5G smartphones on the market, which, in turn, pushes operators to implement and distribute the network. Android manufacturers are not far behind either: if in 2019 5G was a privilege of flagship devices, then in 2020 we see 5G smartphones for $ 300! The trend towards an increase in the number of devices is obvious, so I expect the earliest appearance of mass 5G . " (Nikita Smolyanchenko)
Voice
“Okay Google,” “Hey Siri,” “What’s up, Alice?” – voice recognition has actually reached a much higher level than you might think. Gartner predicts that by 2030, 30% of web browsing will be done with the help of voice. VUI (Voice User Interface) uses voice recognition technology to facilitate the connection between the user and the device or specific technology, not only to respond to queries, but also to anticipate desires.
